Our History

Barminco was established in 1989 by founder and current shareholder and Non-Executive Director, Peter Bartlett.

From humble beginnings in Coolgardie Western Australia, Barminco now provides all facets of underground mining services internationally. Today, Barminco is recognised as one of the leading underground mining service specialists globally.

Business established and awarded first underground mining contract.

1992

 

Head office opened in South Perth.

1995

 

Barminco's first major contract wins, Wiluna Gold Mine and a second major contract won at Plutonic.

1996

 

Diamond Drilling Division established.

1998

 

Head Office moved to Applecross and opened Maddington workshop.

1999

 

Barminco grows to 415 employees.

2000-2009

Barminco wins Mt Lyell major contract and grows to 593 employees.

2001

 

Barminco grows to 723 employees.

2003

 

Major contracts won at Rosebery and Marvel Loch.

2004

 

Contracts won for Flying Fox Nickel Mine and Sunrise Dam Gold Mine.

2005

 

Barminco grows to 1,190 employees.

2007

 

Gresham Private Equity Group bought a majority stake from Peter Bartlett, enabling further investment in business growth and services.

2008

 

Head Office moved to Hazelmere to centralise all support and administration operations in the purpose built facility in Perth, Western Australia.

2009

 

Commenced operations in Egypt at the Sukari Hills Gold Mine.

Barminco celebrates 21 years in business.

Commenced diamond drilling operations in South Africa for AngloGold Ashanti.

2011

 

Awarded the largest contract in the company's history at AngloGold Ashanti's Sunrise Dam Gold Mine.

Runner Up CME Safety and Health Innovation Awards in recognition for the Whole of Mine Diesel Emissions Management Program.

Barminco is one of the Seven Companies in the Golden Gecko Awards for Environmental Excellence.

New single jumbo development record of 700.4m set at Dugald River operations in North Queensland with no Loss Time Injury or RWIs. This was achieved with one twin boom jumbo, one R2900 loader and one CAT AD55 truck in a single month.

Sunrise Dam mine recognised as Best Safety Performer in AngloGold Ashanti Global, registering 940 consecutive days Loss Time Injury free.

Barminco receives certification to ISO 14001 for its Environmental Standards.

Awarded three-year whole of mine contract at Bluestone's Renison Bell Tin Mine, Tasmania.

Successfully refinancing of Barminco's debt facilities with a US$485 million senior note offering and secured Australian debt facilities.

CMT/Vedanta awards Barminco a three year whole of mine contract for the Mount Lyell operation in Tasmania.

Barminco is awarded a three year extension and have their scope of work expanded to include production activities at Gold Fields Agnew operations.

Recipient of the Gold Fields Safety Shield, recognising outstanding safety performance of the workforce on site across the entire business.

Loss Time Injury Frequency Rate is 0.89 at the end of the financial year, the lowest LTIFR in six years.

The Company is successfully re-certified against ISO 9001 (Quality) and AS 4801 (Health and Safety).

MMG's Dugald River mine site celebrates two years free of Lost Time Injuries.

Awarded development works at MMG’s Rosebery Mine in Tasmania.

The Diamond Drill Division has broken the Barminco record for the deepest hole – 1,800m at Wallaby.

Awarded two contracts by Independence group at the Nova Nickel Mine.

Awarded the Geita Project in Tanzania.

Achieved record of 370.6m height single heading drilling at Nova

2016

 

Barminco commenced in India, first contract – Rampura Augucha Mine

Barminco won ‘Systems Category’ of the 2016 CME safety and Health Innovation Awards
